What is a repository?

A repository is your collection of records: the sites of one culture, the finds of one excavation, the places a book discusses. Records live in Arkhub once; a repository points at them. The same record can sit in many repositories. Your repositories are listed in the sidebar. Public repositories you have visited appear there too.

Creating a repository

1

Create it

Click Create Repository in the sidebar. A new repository opens on its Data tab.
2

Name it

Give it a name and a description from its header. Mention people with @ in the description; the mention links to their profile.
3

Choose a cover

Add a cover image. Drag and resize the box to choose what the cover shows, and see what phones, laptops and wide screens each show.
4

Public or private

A repository starts private. Switch it to public from its header when it is ready. Visitors see the change in your recent activity.
A new repository shows three steps along the bottom, Pick Records, Add Parameters and Explore Data, until you have seen your records on the map.

The Data tab

Every repository starts with a Data tab. It is always first and lists the repository’s records. From it you add records in four ways:

Search

Search all of Arkhub. Narrow the matches by kind, region, country or period, then add them all at once or one at a time.

Pick on the map

Draw over areas on a map and add every record in them.

From another repository

Start from someone else’s repository and keep the records you need.

By rule

Choose record types, kinds, regions, countries or periods, and add every record that fits.
Add Record under a table opens the same search. To create a record that does not exist yet, see Creating a record.
Records you cannot open still count. A visitor sees a “Private record” row with none of its details in place of a private record. A site whose location is protected shows as a “Location protected” row with only its title, kind, periods, country and region. See Access levels.

Views

Add views with the + next to the tabs. Each view keeps its own fields and settings. Drag a view’s tab to change the order; Data stays first. Rename or delete a view from its tab.
Each row is a record. The Type column shows each record’s kind as a tag. Links in cells are clickable chips.
  • Fields: open Edit properties to add, remove or reset fields, grouped by topic. Fill the table adds a set of fields for your background in one go.
  • Claims as columns: show datings, purposes, what a figure depicts and other claims as columns. Competing claims show side by side, and you can filter a column by type.
  • Columns: drag a header sideways to move a column. Wrap a column’s text from its header menu. Hide and show columns.
  • Location: reads as region and country, with latitude and longitude as columns of their own.
  • Side peek: click a record to read it beside the table, with View full record to go to its page.

Versions in a table

A table shows how many people hold their own version of its records. Pick one to show the table as their version: their kind, dates, periods and civilizations replace the consensus ones, in colour, and each of their records is marked with their picture. Compare with consensus shows only the records that person changed, with the consensus value crossed out beside theirs. See Your version of a record for how versions are made.

Managing a repository

From the repository header you can:
  • Bookmark it. Your bookmarks are listed under Bookmarks in the sidebar.
  • Switch it between Public and Private.
  • Delete it. Type its name to confirm. The records stay in Arkhub.
Only the owner of a repository (and admins) can change it.
Coming soon: ask the owner of a private repository for access from the repository itself, and more table templates. Click Coming soon in the app to leave your email.
