Overview
A record holds three kinds of information. Each has one job.
The record’s kind (temple, stone circle, sword) is none of these. It is the one answer to “what is this?”, and you pick it when you create the record.
Attributes
Attributes are the facts on a record page, under Details and Characteristics. Each shows with its label and, where given, its sources. The fields depend on the record type and the kind. A place has a location, sizes and construction fields. A stone circle adds a stone count, a diameter and the number of rings. An artifact has dimensions, weight and materials. A person has birth and death dates and places.Values Arkhub works out
Some values are not typed in. Arkhub works them out and refreshes them when the record changes:- Country, region and continent, from the location.
- Date span and periods, from the record’s datings, using a period scheme for each part of the world. A badge shows when datings disagree.
- Length, width, area and the length of the lines, from the outline, for places that have one. These show as “measured from the outline”.
Fields in tables
In a repository table, open Edit properties to add, remove or reset fields, grouped by topic. Fill the table offers a set of fields for your background (engineers, architects, historians and more) and shows how much of your table each set would fill.Tags
Tags group records so you can filter and search them. A record can carry tags from each of these categories:- Time Periods: Paleolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age, Iron Age and so on
- Civilizations
- Material Types: stone, metals, ceramics, wood and more
- Architectural Features: what a place has, such as terraces or hearths
- Research Methods
- Functions
- Site Relationship Types
- Unifying Features
Not every category applies to every record type. The reference pages linked in the app’s footer (Taxonomy, Attributes, Hierarchy) list every tag, every field and how places nest.
Claims
A claim is one piece of evidence with how it was established, who makes it and the sources that back it. Claims that disagree sit side by side. The claim lists are:Claims in tables
From Edit properties you can show a claim list as a table column. Each claim shows with its type, competing claims side by side. Filter a column by type, say every animal figure. Showing the table as someone’s version shows their claims.Challenging claims
Any Contributor can add a claim or object to one. See Challenge a record.Common questions
I cannot find a field
I cannot find a field
Fields depend on the record type and the kind. Check that the record has the right type and kind. In a table, open Edit properties; the field may be hidden.
Two datings disagree. Which one is right?
Two datings disagree. Which one is right?
Arkhub does not pick. Both claims show with their basis and their sources, and the record carries a badge that says they disagree. You can object to one of them with your reasons.
