This guide takes you from the home map to a repository filled with records. You need an account for step 2 onwards.
1

Open app.arkhub.co and click Sign in. Use Google, X or an email link. Then choose a username and fill in your profile.
2

Create a repository

In the sidebar, click Create Repository. A new repository opens on its Data tab. Give it a name and, if you want, a description from its header.
3

Add records

The Data tab searches all of Arkhub. Type a place or a region. Narrow the matches by kind, region, country or period. Click Add all, or add records one at a time. You can also:
  • Pick on the map: draw over areas and add every record in them.
  • From another repository: start from someone else’s repository and keep the records you need.
  • By rule: choose record types, kinds, regions, countries or periods, and add every record that fits.
4

Look at your data

Open the Table tab. Click Edit properties to add fields, or Fill the table to add a set of fields for your background in one go. Add a Timeline or a Gallery view with the + next to the tabs.
5

Explore the map

Click the small map in the corner of the repository, or choose Explore map from the repository’s menu in the sidebar. The map flies to your records. Filter them with the chips over the map.

Key concepts

A record is one place, object, civilization, person, event or culture. It has a type and a kind (a temple, a stone circle, a sword). It holds facts (its location, its sizes), tags for grouping, claims with sources, images and a history of every change.
A dating, an attribution, a purpose or an alignment is a claim. Each claim says how it was established and who makes it, and cites its sources. Contributors can challenge a record: add a claim or object to one, with reasons and sources. Your challenges together form your version of the record.
A repository is your collection of records. It starts with a Data tab, where you add records. Then you study them in table, timeline, gallery and map views. A repository is public or private.
Posts are articles. Write them in the editor, link records into them, and publish them on your profile and on Discover.

Common workflows

Study a set of sites

1

Create a repository

One repository per question, such as “Stone circles of Scotland”.
2

Add by rule

In the Data tab, pick the kind and the region, and add every record that fits.
3

Fill the table

Pick the field set for your background. Add claims such as datings as columns.
4

Compare versions

Document a place you study

1

Create the record

Creating records needs Contributor access. Apply from the Create record button; we review every application by hand.
2

Add its parts

Add the features inside the place and set what each is part of. Arkhub works out the levels.
3

Add claims with sources

Add a dating and an attribution, each with how it was established and the source that backs it.
4

Write it up

Publish a post that links to the record.
Press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows) anywhere to search records, repositories, people and posts. Filter by kind, record type, creator, official records only, or an age range. Press ⌘↵ to open a result in a new tab, or ⌘L to copy its link.
