# Welcome to Arkhub

> A shared, sourced record of the archaeological world, and the tools to study it

## What is Arkhub?

Arkhub is a database of archaeological places, finds, peoples and events. Every site has one record. Each record holds its facts, its sources, and the claims people make about it: when it was built, by whom, for what, and how it aligns with the sky. Claims that disagree sit side by side, each with its sources.

You read records, collect them in repositories, see them on a map, and write about them. If you are a researcher, you also add records, suggest changes, and challenge claims with your own evidence.

Arkhub is in beta. The app is at [app.arkhub.co](https://app.arkhub.co).

## How Arkhub works

### One record per place

A place or an object has one record that everyone shares. Each change is saved with who made it and why. You can open any earlier state of a record and compare two states side by side.

### Claims with sources

A dating, an attribution, a purpose or an alignment is a claim. A claim says how it was established and which sources back it. Two people can hold two different datings of the same site. Both show on the record.

### Your own version

You do not need to agree with the shared record. Add your own claims or object to existing ones. Arkhub assembles your version of the record from your challenges. Others can read it, and a repository table can show every record as your version.

### Repositories and maps

A repository is your collection of records. Search Arkhub for records, pick them on a map, or add every record that fits a rule. Then study them in a table, a timeline, a gallery or on a map.

## Who is Arkhub for?

> **Researchers**
>
> Add records, cite sources, challenge claims and hold your own version

> **Readers**
>
> Explore sites on the map, read records and posts, and follow researchers

> **Guides and authors**
>
> Offer tours, sessions and books from your own storefront

## Getting started

**1. Open the map**

Go to [app.arkhub.co](https://app.arkhub.co). The home map shows every site in Arkhub. Drag across the timeline below it to see only the sites from those years.

**2. Sign in**

Sign in with Google, X or an email link. Pick a username. Your profile is at app.arkhub.co/your-username.

**3. Make a repository**

Click **Create Repository** in the sidebar. Its Data tab lets you search Arkhub, pick areas on the map, or add every record that matches a rule.

**4. Go deeper**

Open a record to read its claims, sources and history. Suggest a change, or challenge a claim with your own evidence.
